Website Redesign in 2026: Signs, Cost in India & Keeping Your SEO
Website redesign cost in India for 2026, the signs your site needs one, and a step-by-step SEO checklist with redirects so you don't lose rankings at launch.

Quick answer: Redesign your website when it no longer matches your brand, converts poorly, is slow on mobile or can't be updated without a developer. In India, a professional agency redesign at Life Designer costs ₹3–10 lakh, depending on page count, CMS, integrations and custom code versus no-code. To keep your SEO, map every old URL to a new one, use permanent 301 redirects kept for at least a year, and submit a new sitemap, as Google recommends.

Most founders know the feeling. The website was built in a hurry for launch, the business has moved on, and now every sales call starts with "ignore the website, we've changed a lot since then". That's usually the moment to redesign.
The risk is that a redesign done carelessly can wipe out the search traffic you've built over years. This guide covers the signs that a redesign is due, what it costs in India in 2026, and the step-by-step checklist we use to protect rankings when a site changes.
What are the signs you need a website redesign?
One sign on its own might only need a fix. Three or more usually point to a redesign:
Sign | What it looks like | Fix or redesign? |
|---|---|---|
Brand mismatch | New logo, positioning or product, but the site still tells the old story | Redesign |
Low conversion | Traffic arrives but few people enquire, book or buy | Start with conversion fixes; redesign if the structure is the problem |
Slow or clumsy on mobile | Pages fail Google's Core Web Vitals or are hard to use on a phone | Often a redesign or rebuild |
Hard to update | Every text change needs a developer ticket | Rebuild on a CMS or no-code platform |
Messy structure | Visitors can't find services or pricing; navigation has grown by accident | Redesign with new information architecture |
Outdated tech or security | Old plugins, unsupported themes, frequent breakages | Rebuild |
New markets or languages | Expanding to new cities or countries with no plan for localised pages | Redesign with a multilingual structure |
What Google treats as "good" on speed
Google's Core Web Vitals give you an objective check. A page passes when its Largest Contentful Paint is 2.5 seconds or less, Interaction to Next Paint is 200 milliseconds or less and Cumulative Layout Shift is 0.1 or less, measured at the 75th percentile of real visits. If your key pages miss these on mobile, a visual refresh alone won't fix it.
Redesign, refresh or rebuild: which do you need?
Refresh: same structure and platform, updated visuals, copy and images. Fastest and cheapest, and it works when the bones are sound.
Redesign: new information architecture, page templates and user journeys, often on the same platform.
Rebuild: new design and new platform, for example moving from an old WordPress theme to Framer or a custom stack. Highest SEO risk, so it needs the most careful migration.
If you're deciding on the platform as part of the rebuild, our guide to custom vs no-code websites explains the trade-offs, and whether no-code is cheaper than custom development covers the cost side.

How much does a website redesign cost in India in 2026?
At Life Designer, website design and development, including redesigns, runs ₹3–10 lakh, plus GST. Where a project lands in that range depends on a handful of factors:
Cost driver | Pushes the price down | Pushes the price up |
|---|---|---|
Scope | Visual refresh of existing pages | New information architecture, new templates, new copy |
Page count | A focused site with a few core pages | Many service, location or product pages |
Platform | No-code build (Framer or Webflow) | Custom code with bespoke features |
Content | You supply final copy and images | Copywriting, photography, illustration or motion |
Integrations | Contact forms and analytics | CRM, booking, payments, gated portals |
Languages | One language | Multilingual with localised pages |
SEO migration | Few pages, URLs kept as they are | Large site with many URL changes and redirects |
If the redesign comes with a new brand, budget for that separately (our branding starts at ₹3 lakh). If you want ongoing search growth after launch, our SEO retainers start at ₹80,000 a month. Every project is scoped after a discovery call, with a line-item proposal before you commit.
How do you redesign a website without losing SEO?
Rankings drop after redesigns for predictable reasons: URLs change without redirects, pages that ranked are removed, content is cut, or the new site is blocked from search engines at launch. Google's own guidance on site moves covers most of the fixes. Here's the checklist we work from:
Before launch
Benchmark. Export rankings, top landing pages and backlinks from Google Search Console and analytics, so you can compare after launch.
Inventory every URL. Use your sitemap, analytics, server logs and CMS to list all live pages, not just the ones in the navigation.
Keep URLs where you can. The safest redirect is the one you don't need.
Build a redirect map. Match each important old URL to its closest new page. Google warns against sending many old pages to an unrelated page such as the homepage.
Protect what ranks. Keep the content, headings and internal links that earn traffic, even if the design changes around them.
Stage it privately. Keep the staging site out of search results, and remove that block on launch day.
At launch
Use permanent redirects. Google recommends server-side 301 or 308 redirects, pointing straight to the final URL with no long chains.
Submit a new sitemap in Search Console listing the new URLs.
Check titles, meta descriptions, canonical tags and structured data on every key template.
Test forms, tracking and conversions before you announce the new site.
After launch
Keep redirects for at least a year, as Google advises, and longer if possible.
Watch Search Console for crawl errors and 404s, and fix them quickly.
Expect some movement. Google says it can take a few weeks or more for new URLs to show for a medium-sized site, and longer for large ones.
Update your own links and ask key partners to update theirs, so visitors don't pass through redirects.
If you're moving to a new domain as well, Google's Change of Address tool in Search Console is also needed. For broader context on building sites that rank, see our guide to SEO-friendly website agencies for startups.

What redesigns look like in our portfolio
Pepagora (B2B marketplace): a platform rebuild over five months with several rounds of UX iteration. The client reported a 100% positive response to the decluttered platform.
Proclime (climate tech): a UX revamp with new information architecture and an IREC calculator.
Sparkle Clean Tech: a rebrand followed by an SEO-optimised, multilingual, responsive website.
Stone Hands (sustainable architecture): brand strategy, identity and guidelines with a website revamp built on the new brand.
You can see how we approach builds on our website and app development page, and how we handle search on our SEO services page.
How long does a website redesign take?
Timelines depend on scope and how quickly content and feedback arrive. A refresh of a small site moves fastest. A redesign with new information architecture, copy and a platform change takes longer, because research, wireframes, design, build, content migration and SEO checks each need time. Ask any agency for a stage-by-stage plan with named approval points, and build in time for the redirect map: it's the step most often rushed.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a website redesign cost in India?
At Life Designer, website design and development, including redesigns, costs ₹3–10 lakh plus GST. The final figure depends on whether you need a refresh or a full rebuild, the number of pages, the platform, integrations such as CRM or payments, multilingual needs and how much SEO migration work is involved.
Will redesigning my website hurt my Google rankings?
It can, but it doesn't have to. Rankings usually fall because URLs change without redirects, ranking pages are removed or the new site is blocked from search. Mapping every important URL, using permanent 301 redirects and keeping strong content in place protects most of your traffic.
How long should I keep 301 redirects after a redesign?
Google recommends keeping redirects for at least a year, and longer if you can. Old URLs may still be linked from other sites, bookmarks and emails, so removing redirects too early sends visitors and search engines to error pages and can lose the value of those links.
How often should a website be redesigned?
There's no fixed cycle. Redesign when the site no longer reflects your brand or offer, converts poorly, fails Core Web Vitals on mobile, or is too hard to update. Between redesigns, keep improving content, speed and conversion paths so the next change is smaller.
Should I redesign my website and rebrand at the same time?
If the brand is changing, yes. Designing the site from the new identity avoids paying for two redesigns. Plan the brand first, then the site, and treat the launch as one project with a single SEO migration plan so you only move URLs once.
Is it better to redesign on the same platform or switch?
Stay on the same platform if it's secure, fast and easy for your team to update. Switch if every change needs a developer, the platform is outdated or it can't support your plans. A platform switch is the riskiest change for SEO, so it needs a careful redirect plan.
The bottom line
A redesign is worth it when your site is holding the business back: wrong story, poor conversion, slow on mobile or painful to update. The cost is manageable; the bigger risk is losing search traffic, and that's avoidable with a URL inventory, a redirect map and Google's site-move checklist followed step by step.
